The Turnover Rate of Phospholipids in the Plasma of the Dog as Measured with Radioactive Phosphorus
1. A method for the determination of turnover time and turnover rate of plasma phospholipid is presented. 2. During the postabsorptive state 5.2 to 8.0 mg. of phospholipid phosphorus are turned over per hour in the plasma of dogs weighing 6-9 kilos. 3. The amount of phospholipid in an organ that is supplied by plasma phospholipid per hour is calculated.
متن کاملThe effects of lipotropic factors on phospholipide turnover in the plasma of normal persons as indicated by radioactive phosphorus.
The action of choline and methionine in preventing or curing the fatty infiltration of the liver which is produced experimentally in animals by low protein diets is believed to result from an increased turnover of phospholipides in the liver (1, 2). Since this organ is the main, if not the sole, source of phospholipides in plasma (3), it would seem that changes in the formation of phospholipide...
متن کاملRadioactive Phosphorus as an Indicator of Phospholipid Metabolism Xii. Further Observations on the Effects of Amino Acids on Phospholipid
Three amino acids have been shown to accelerate phospholipid turnover in the liver: methionine, cystine, and cysteine (1). In short intervals after the administration of radioactive phosphorus, greater amounts of labeled phospholipid are deposited in the livers of rats fed these three amino acids than in the livers of control animals. In the case of methionine, this finding lends support to the...
متن کاملPhosphorus Metabolism of Neoplastic Tissues (mammary Carcinoma, Lymphoma, Lymphosarcoma) as Indicated by Radioactive Phosphorus
In previous studies from these laboratories, radioactive phosphorus was used to determine the rate of phospholipid turnover in 4 types of transplantable tumors: a mammary carcinoma, a lymphoma, a lymphosarcoma, and sarcoma 180 (1, 2 ) . Some distinctive features of the metabolism of these neoplastic tissues were described: (a) the fact that their phospholipid turnover bears a greater resemblanc...
متن کاملTurnover of Phospholipids in Normal and Phosphorus-deficient Spirodela.
When (32)P(1) was supplied as a 15-minute pulse to normal Spirodela oligorrhiza plants, the first phospholipid to become fully labeled was phosphatidic acid. Phosphatidyl glycerol reached maximum labeling before the other major phospholipids. In phosphorus-deficient plants, however, phosphatidyl glycerol became labeled much more slowly than either phosphatidyl choline or phosphatidyl ethanolami...
